Ryujinx vs. Competitors

Up until March 2024, Ryujinx faced fierce competition from Yuzu, another free and open-source emulator. When compared side-by-side, both had their own set of advantages and disadvantages and ultimately it came down to user preference. That is until, Nintendo decided to move against Yuzu for copyright infringement in the form of a lawsuit.

Naturally, the developers of Yuzu couldn’t hope to win this case and reached an agreement with Nintendo to stop development on Yuzu, in exchange for not being fined. Everyone jumped ship to Ryujinx and it’s been smooth sailing since. Yuzu still lives on (unofficially on the Internet), but since it hasn’t been updated since March 2024, it can’t ruin the most recent titles.

That’s where the Yuzu clones come in. Since Yuzu was open-source, many people copied the code before it was taken down and proceeded to upload multiple clones. Amongst the clones, Sudachi was able to stand out as the successor to Yuzu. Unfortunately, even Sudachi isn’t immune to Nintendo’s attacks and recently, it’s been shut down due to copyright infringement by, you guessed it, Nintendo.

As long as the user permits it, Facebook allows third-party apps to access their timeline photos. As a result of the bug, third-party apps were able to access non-public photos without permission. Facebook says that developers were able to access other photos, such as those shared on Marketplace or Facebook Stories. Photos uploaded to Facebook that weren’t posted are stored on the site, and as such, they were also impacted.

Facebook is apologizing and is taking steps to alleviate the damages by urging users to delete affected photos.

“We’re sorry this happened. Early next week we will be rolling out tools for app developers that will allow them to determine which people using their app might be impacted by this bug. We will be working with those developers to delete the photos from impacted users.”

It may not offer the same level of performance as DeSmuME, but since it has Wi-Fi multiplayer, it’s definitely worth checking out.

5. RetroArch

Platforms: Everything (no joke)

RetroArch may be the most well-known emulator on this list, as it is one of the most well-known emulators out there. The best part is that RetroArch by itself isn’t even an emulator; it uses cores or engines from other emulators to provide an all-in-one emulator solution. Therefore, you might see several different cores for the same console. It is fully open-source too.

At any rate, RetroArch is pretty much a universal emulator and is available across all major platforms; Windows, Linux, macOS, iOS, Android. For the DS, it uses DeSmuME’s core so you can be sure that its going to have no problems in terms of performance. It also features speed hacks, cheats, save states and controller support. The only downside is that RetroArch is pretty un-user-friendly and its interface leaves much to be desired.

Emulation and Piracy

The Nintendo DS is nearly 20 years old and even though its classics continue to be enjoyed to this day through these emulators, it’s important to remember that emulation itself not piracy. You can get the Lesser Restoration spell in the following ways, depending on the class you’ve chosen:

1. Bard, Cleric and Druid Classes

Bard, Cleric and Druid classes need to reach Class Level 3 and the Lesser Restoration spell will be available to learn. Clerics will have to choose the sub–class Life Domain to learn the spell.

2. Paladin and Ranger Classes

That’s because you can find several items that can grant you immunity, or at the very least, high resistance to disease, poison, paralysis, blindness and bloodless. Shadowheart, a NPC who can become your ally, is a Cleric and can also use it.

However, if you plan on keeping Astarion around and romancing him, it can be worth it. Still, with the Amulet of Silvanus, it seems less important, especially since you can get the Amulet quite early in the game.
